Mad in America publish an article I wrote about my horrendous double-decade bipolar horror story

Writer: Tom RobinsonTom Robinson

Today's post is literally going to be a couple of paragraphs - nothing like my usual involved and detailed entries so my apologies for that to start with!

The reason for this is that I am well and truly shattered and extremely sleep deprived - for some reason (I know exactly why), my highly sensitive bipolar mind and brain will not shut off right now ...

So, I'm having to prioritise my health and cut back on things which is annoying as I've just started a massive PR campaign in an attempt to get this (very elusive and extremely unforthcoming) book agent!

Mad in America

Anyway, the PR is working and I've had an article published on the Mad in America site which is a science, psychiatry and social justice organisation, set up for the purpose of:

Serving as a catalyst for rethinking psychiatric care in the United States (and abroad). We believe that the current drug-based paradigm of care has failed our society, and that scientific research, as well as the lived experience of those who have been diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, calls for profound change.

So, you see it is right up my street!

Please read, spread the word and share the hell out of it!

If I am to get my books published and start properly helping people then apparently (according to the last literary agent who rejected me) I need over 10,000 followers on social media!

To proceed or not to proceed that is the question

I wildly imagined when I wrote Dying to Stay Alive! that I'd be able to just send a great proposal, synopsis and sample chapters to a literary agent and get published without any stress - how wrong was I!!

Getting a mainstream or 'traditional' contract is probably one of the hardest things you can ever try to do.

Last night I was seriously considering whether or not to continue with this ambition since the stress has affected my sleep and I need to be well above all else - no matter how important this book may or may not be.

Having to 'push the wheel' i.e. write the damn words, do the PR, social media, editing my own work, proofreading 200,000 words, sending submissions, emails, writing synopses, query letters and 50 page book proposal (as well as the blog and the actual manuscripts) all ON MY OWN - is EXHAUSTING...

So anyway, I told Mum I was packing the whole thing in last night but then in true 'woo-woo' style I thought I'd just pull a tarot card to see what came up!

And I pulled this:

So, it would appear that I am continuing!

Thanks for reading,

Speak to you soon,
